Did you ever want to get to know the author behind these amazing books we read? Well, look no further! On today’s Author Chit Chat, it’s my honor to introduce Kaira Rouda. Best Day Ever was released last year, but this year the paperback is out and we’re here celebrating her release! Everyone please give a warm welcome to Kaira….

1) Congrats on your recent paperback release! What inspired you to write Best Day Ever?

Thank you! BEST DAY EVER’s main character, Paul, popped into my head one day and demanded to have his story told. That’s literally how it happened, and I feel like I was along for the ride, so to speak. It was a fun book to write.

2) When you first saw the cover for Best Day Ever, what were your initial thoughts?

I loved the red envelope cover and I love the blue paperback cover. They’re both gorgeous, and tie into the story.

3) If you could re-name your book title, what would you choose?

The title popped into my head at the same time as Paul, the first-person narrator. I love the irony and I wouldn’t change a thing!

4) Did you always want to be a writer or did you have other aspirations as well?

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a writer. It took me awhile to be able to do it full time, though, to have the confidence to go for it as a novelist. Along the way, there were four kids, many jobs, life and well, you know. Experiences add fuel to the writing fire and I thank all of the bad bosses of my past for giving Paul a voice and a point of view.

5) Out of the novels you’ve written, which one is your favorite and why?

That’s a tough one. My heart is close to both IN THE MIRROR, a poignant tale of a young mom fighting cancer, and THE GOODBYE YEAR, about a mom and son letting go during senior year in high school. That said, I love writing suspense, and exploring what goes on behind closed doors of seemingly perfect lives. I can’t wait for the Favorite Daughter to be out, May 21, 2019.

6) Tell us one unique thing about yourself, that you normally don’t share.

I love to hula hoop.

7) Last but not least, do you have anything you’d like to say to your current and future readers?

I’m so grateful to be able to have the career of my dreams. It’s because of the support of readers and bookstagrammers, bloggers and reviewers and Facebook fans. I pinch myself daily that this is all coming true. Thank you for reading my novels.

Thank you Kaira for taking the time out to do this interview!

Book Mail: Cold Blood by Robert Bryndza

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 8.45.45 PM.png
Who loves fictional serial killer books? Me! 🙋‍♀️ Cold Blood is the fifth installment in the Detective Erika Foster series.

Now, I haven’t read any books by Robert, but I am sure I can read it as a standalone. Or so I hope! If anyone has read these books, please let me know if I need to read them in order or not. Either way, Cold Blood sounds delicious! I can’t wait to start it.

Book Summary: The suitcase was badly rusted, and took Erika several attempts, but it yielded and sagged open as she unzipped it. Nothing could prepare her for what she would find inside…

When a battered suitcase containing the dismembered body of a young man washes up on the shore of the river Thames, Detective Erika Foster is shocked. But it’s not the first time she’s seen such a brutal murder…

Two weeks earlier, the body of a young woman was found dumped in an identical suitcase. What connects the two victims? As Erika and her team set to work, they quickly realise they are on the trail of a serial killer who has already made their next move.

Yet just as Erika starts to make headway with the investigation, she is the target of a violent attack. Forced to recover at home, and with her personal life falling apart, everything is stacked against her, but nothing will stop Erika.

As the body count rises, the case takes an even more twisted turn when the twin daughters of Erika’s colleague, Commander Marsh, are suddenly put in terrible jeopardy. The stakes are higher than ever before, but can Erika save the lives of two innocent children before it’s too late? She’s running out of time and about to make a disturbing discovery…there’s more than one killer.

Book Review: The Date by Louise Jensen

39603448The Date by Louise Jensen
Reading Level: Psychological Thriller
Release Date: June 21, 2018
Publisher: Bookouture
Pages: 308

Book Summary: One night can change everything. ‘I know it as soon as I wake up and open my eyes… Something is wrong.’ Her Saturday night started normally. Recently separated from her husband, Ali has been persuaded by her friends to go on a date with a new man. She is ready, she is nervous, she is excited. She is about to take a step into her new future. By Sunday morning, Ali’s life is unrecognisable. She wakes, and she knows that something is wrong. She is home, she is alone, she is hurt and she has no memory of what happened to her. Worse still, when she looks in the mirror, Ali doesn’t recognise the face staring back at her…

My Review: Can you imagine waking up and not being able to recognize anyone you know? I sure can’t. It’s a traumatic diagnosis that would surely change any life. For Ali, in just one night, everything turned upside down. And the sad part is, she’s in danger and she can’t remember why! I mean if this doesn’t sound like a perfect formula for an addictive thriller, than I don’t know what is.

Ali’s emotional turbulence towards her separation was relatable. One day you’re happy and married and the next you’re separated and confused. On top of all that, she is dealing with a stalker and trying to piece together parts to an unfamiliar night.

Louise did a superb job in giving all the secondary characters meaning as well. I was constantly suspicious and paranoid as to who was trustworthy in Ali’s circle. By the end, I was so flabbergasted that I yelped, “no fucking way!” I was not expecting the outcome at all. It made me want to shake the person involved in Ali’s horrible nightmare.

The Date was a well-written story that kept me wanting more as it escalated. Louise’s mysterious plot grabbed my attention and didn’t let go until all the answers were revealed. I highly recommend this thriller if you’re looking for a fast paced novel that’ll hit all the right buttons!

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Dead Ringer sounds thrilling! The Gemini killer huh? How cool is that serial killer name. And no, it’s not because I’m a Gemini, okay maybe just a little. 😆

It comes out right around Halloween, definitely a book that’ll be great to read around that time.

What are your thoughts on Dead Ringer?

Book Summary:

Eighteen years ago, FBI Agent Rachel Ward’s mirror twin, Hannah, was taken by the Gemini killer, a serial killer who delights in sending photos of his victims to their twins. Rachel assumes her sister has been dead for years, but she’s never stopped hunting the monster who took her. Now, another twin has been taken, and when the case reopens, Rachel is assigned as an agent. But her relentless hunt for the killer may drive her to her breaking point.

Screen Shot 2018-08-26 at 12.35.46 PM

Who has dated a mama’s boy in the past? 🙋‍ Guilty. It’s the worst experience. This is why I count my blessings that my future mother in law is an angel.

But, for Emily’s sake, she can’t even enjoy her perfect relationship, because Adam’s mother is trying to sabotage it. I can’t even imagine how twisted this story is going to get!

Has anyone experienced something similar to Emily?

Book Summary:

HE LOVES YOU: Adam adores Emily. Emily thinks Adam’s perfect, the man she thought she’d never meet.

BUT SHE LOVES YOU NOT: Lurking in the shadows is a rival, a woman who shares a deep bond with the man she loves.

AND SHE’LL STOP AT NOTHING: Emily chose Adam, but she didn’t choose his mother Pammie. There’s nothing a mother wouldn’t do for her son, and now Emily is about to find out just how far Pammie will go to get what she wants: Emily gone forever.

The Other Woman will have you questioning her on every page, in Sandie Jones’ chilling psychological suspense about a man, his new girlfriend, and the mother who will not let him go.
